                                          A Holiday Tragedy...

Jacob Hack is the 9-year-old son of Mike and Millie Hack. Jacob is a typical boy; he's energetic and fun-loving. He enjoys being outdoors, playing with his friends, riding a four-wheeler, and doing all the other things that a nine-year-old boy loves to do. Unfortunately, a lot of that changed the day after Christmas, 2008, when a stray shot from a pellet rifle tragically altered his life. The pellet entered from the side of one eye, continued behind the bridge of the nose, and into the other eye socket. He was air-lifted to Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville, KY, where surgeons worked for hours trying to save at least one eye. The damage was too great, however, and a few days later, Jacob was sent home blind. The family is hoping that over time, sight may be at least partially restored in one eye. For now, everyone is just dealing with the day to day reality and not trying to raise expectations too early. There are more surgeries down the road, as Jacob heals one day at a time. Jacob has a brother and sister who are sharing his confusion right now, and the whole family need your prayers and support.

Community support has been so much appreciated, and Jacob loves to hear from well-wishers. All the cards, letters, and e-mails that he receives are read to him, and it really lifts his spirits and keeps his mind occupied. This site is set up to help keep everyone updated on his progress, to help spread his story to more supporters, and to act as a central point for the family to offer their gratitude to all those who write. It would be impossible to personally answer every letter, there have been so many!

Jacob's e-mail address, as well as his personal address for those who want  to write a letter or send a card, appear on this page. His mom and dad's e-mail addresses are here, also.

So many thanks go out to so many people. You all know who you are. This will be a slow healing process, so don't forget Jacob, and check back here from time to time to see how he is progressing. God bless, and thank you again.
